Most of the debate reflected the country's concerns with the economy. Obama said the current crisis was the "final verdict on the failed economic policies of the last eight years" pursued by President Bush and "supported by Senator McCain." McCain's pledge to have the government help individual homeowners avoid foreclosure went beyond the details of the bailout plan that recently cleared Congress.
The two men criticized one another repeatedly as the topics turned to energy, spending, taxes, health care and foreign policy. Obama said McCain was going to require taxes on the health benefits workers receive from their employers at the same time his plan would wipe out the ability of states to enforce their own regulations to require tests such as mammograms.
The two men prefer dramatically different approaches to easing the problem of millions of uninsured Americans. McCain favors a $5,000 tax credit that he says would allow families to find and afford health care on their own. Obama wants to build on the current system, in which millions receive coverage through the workplace, with government funding to help uninsured families obtain coverage.

He will increase investments in infrastructure, energy independence, education, and research and development; modernize and simplify our tax code so it provides greater opportunity and relief to more Americans; and implement trade policies that benefit American workers and increase the export of American goods.

Before the war in Iraq ever started, Senator Obama said that it was wrong in its conception. In 2002, then Illinois State Senator Obama said Saddam Hussein posed no imminent threat to the United States and that invasion would lead to an occupation of undetermined length, at undetermined cost, with undetermined consequences. Since then, Senator Obama has laid out a plan on the way forward in Iraq that has largely been affirmed by the bipartisan Iraq Study Group led by James Baker and Lee Hamilton.
HEALTH CARE, which McCain called a responsibility and Obama called a right. Over the long term, said Obama, "We've got to fix our health care system, we've got to fix our energy system that is putting such an enormous burden on families."
THE FINANCIAL CRISIS, and how to fix it dominated the opening of the debate, with McCain saying government-sponsored enterprises Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were a major cause of the crisis since they offered "risky loans to people who could never pay them back." Obama said the major cause of the crisis was excessive deregulation of the financial industries.

Pledges to withdraw most U.S. troops from Iraq within 16 months, by the end of next year, four months earlier than his previous pledge.
A residual force would remain to conduct targeted counterterrorism missions against al-Qaida, protect American diplomatic and civilian personnel, and support Iraq's security forces. Opposed use of military force in Iraq, as well as the January 2007 "troop surge," saying that while it improved security, a political accommodation in the country is the ultimate solution. Contends decision to invade Iraq diverted resources from the war in Afghanistan, making it harder to capture or kill Osama bin Laden while the Taliban has re-emerged and al-Qaida has regrouped. Would send at least two additional combat brigades to Afghanistan and seek greater contributions from NATO allies.

Does not believe in setting a withdrawal timetable from Iraq, saying it depends on conditions on the ground and that Iraq's government must first "become capable of governing itself and safeguarding its people."
However, has spoken of possibility of most troops home by January 2013. Voted in 2002 for use of military force in Iraq, and was one of first proponents of "troop surge." Argues that surge has turned tide of the war, with violence sharply down. Warns that Iraq "must not become a failed state, a haven for terrorists, or a pawn of Iran." Believes economic progress is essential to sustaining security gains in Iraq. Would send three additional combat brigades to Afghanistan and double size of Afghan army to 160,000 troops.

Mortgage: Sen. Barack Obama on Thursday slammed Sen. John McCain's new mortgage plan as "the latest in a series of shifting positions" and evidence of "erratic and uncertain leadership." McCain's original plan called for lenders to write down the value of these mortgages and take those losses.
Bailout:Doug Holtz-Eakin, McCain's economic adviser, said Wednesday that the McCain plan could be put into place quickly because the groundwork and the authority for it already have been provided by last week's $700 billion bailout bill.

The issues that are going to be discussed in the October 15th election will be Afghanistan, Health Care, Iraq, Iran, energy, immigration and taxes. I belive that the three most important will be taxes health care and energy. Obama wants to make tax cuts and make health care more affordable. McCain had pretty much the same plans for taxes and health care and wants to use nuclear energy.

I think that one of the most important issues that they will discuss is the economy, the war on Iraq, and same-sex marriage.
Barack Obama thinks that the economy needs fixed. Him and Biden will put up more wind mills to get wind power. Give more money and prevent cutbacks on road, and bridge maintenance.
For the war in Iraq he will try to end the war as quickly as possible.
He opposes same-sex marriages, but thinks that a constitutional ban is wrong. He thinks they deserve the same rights as we do.
John McCain will do a number of things for the economy. He will save government spending (wasting). He will eliminate tax loopholes.
He agrees with keeping our troups in Iraq. He thinks that it would be a grave mistake to take out our troups before Al Qaeda is defeated and an Iraqi police force is instated.
John McCain is against the ammendment to ban same-sex marriages. He will side with those who oppose it.

John McCain has always belived that our border must be secure and that the federal government has utterly failed in its responsibility to ensure that it is secure.
Obama believes the issue has been exploited by politicians to divide the nation rather than to find a situation.
The war in iraq is a big discussion.John Mcain believes the troops should remain in Iraq to prevent insurgencies to continue. Obama wants the troops out of Iraq.
Another topic is oil. Mcain believes in drilling in more areas like the gulf coast.But Obama believes in creating an alternate source of fuel.Finnaly the economy. They both support the bailout plan, and both understand the inportance of this to our struggling market.
War in Iraq is a big factor! They are going to discuss Iraq and Iran in these debates. Iraq,Iran, and oil are the biggesr controversies right now. Also the Economy is a huge thing in which both Mcain and Obama believe in.

John McCain made gas prices a political issue. He also believes that people need a little relief from the high prices.Obama has pretty much the same view as McCain the the gas prices are killing people. Obama said that country needed to do more to increase production.

McCain thinks that the troops need to stay in iraq.
Abortion
McCain opposes abortion rights.
Obama supports "partial-birth abortion."
War in Iraq
Obama wants to withdrawal troops in Iraq.
McCain believes that should support Iraq's government therefore we should keep their people safe until they can do it themselves.
Immigration
Obama believes you need to enforce the border more.
McCain believes we need to fix the broken borders and make them more secure.

Obama’s Stance on financial crises, energy & health care:
He thinks, that the rescue package that was passed last week was step one, but we've got to make sure that works properly. And that means strong oversight, making sure that investors, taxpayers are getting their money back and treated as investors. Aswell he thinks, the middle-class need a rescue package. And that means tax cuts for the middle-class.He says, we've got to fix our health care system, health costs were breaking family budgets. “If you’ve got health insurance,” he said, “most of you have seen your premiums double over the last eight years, and your co-payments and deductibles have gone up 30 percent just in the last year alone. And if you’re a small business, it’s a crushing burden.”. He says we've got to fix our energy system that is putting such an enormous burden on families. His Stance on energy is the following: “Our goal should be, in 10 years’ time, we are free of dependence on Middle Eastern oil, and we can do it.”
McCain’s stance on financial crises, energy & health care:
He says, he has a plan to fix this problem and it has got to do with energy independence. We've got to stop sending $700 billion a year to countries that don't want us very -- like us very much. We have to keep Americans' taxes low. All Americans' taxes low. And he said, we should not raise taxes on anybody today. ”We obviously have to stop this spending spree that's going on in Washington. “
Mr. McCain said that his plan – which would end the exclusion of employer-sponsored health benefits from income taxes and instead give families a $5,000 tax credit – would leave 95 percent of Americans with a net gain.
And on energy he said that America should drill offshore because that would lower the price of oil. “It will reduce the price of a barrel of oil, because when people know there’s a greater supply, then the cost of that will go down,” he said.
Gun Control, Obama he doesn't favor an all-out ban on hand guns. Mccain believes that the right of law abiding citizens to keep and bear arms is a fundamental, individual Constitutional right. Immigration, Obama wants stronger border security. Mccain wants border secured first. Civil Rights, Obama wants the woman to choose if she can have an abortion or not. Mccain is pro-life on the subject.
THE WAR IN IRAQ
McCain is standing firm on the war in Iraq even though the cost on to candidacy. He also believes that the troops should stay in Iraq. He also believes that there would be more costs trying to get the troops out of Iraq with chaos and it may bring terrorists to United States.
Barack Obama says the war in Iraq is a "dangerous distraction." Part of Obama's new strategy will be taking the fight to al Qaeda in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Barack says that his first task in office will be to end the war in Iraq.
ECONOMY
John McCain said it him self that he did not understand economy. Also his economic plan would give big tax breaks to corporations and tax workers’ health care benefits. McCain doesn’t believe we are heading in a recession he believes the economy is strong he also believes it will get stronger.
