Wow, to think it is already the end of the first quarter is crazy. I guess the saying holds true when talking about our blogs, time really does fly by when your having fun.
Ok, now for your assignment. This last week of Quarter 1, I am going to open it up for debate on whatever topic you want to blog about. Pick a CURRENT EVENTS/WORLD ISSUE related topic and state your opinion/thoughts on that topic. Then look around at your classmates blogs and comment/reply to their post. Agree/disagree, let them know your opinion/thoughts on their topic. Make sure you pick out 2 of your classmates and respond to their post. State spending for public colleges and universities dropped sharply last year, as the state-by-state numbers contained in this special report from the National Center for Public Policy and Higher Education demonstrate. At the same time, tuition and required fee charges rose significantly in many states and some states reduced their student financial aid programs. The result was the worst fiscal news for public higher education institutions and their students in at least a decade, as the economic recession struck almost every state. So far this year, the picture looks even bleaker, with states continuing to cut higher education appropriations and campuses responding by raising tuition even higher, imposing new fees and reducing student financial assistance. I think our government should step up and make higher education a truly equal opportunity for all.
The price of gas is finally going down. Gas prices have been the lowest since around 2002-2003. some people say the reason why is because of the market and the billion dollar bail-out. I think it will keep going down once our stock market is up and running again.

Popultion growth outstripping resources worldwide is a world problem in the world. It is irrational to the world. I think that it a bad thing that growth in population is increase because the more people the more new cutural in the world.

Our economy right now is horrible. I believe that we are in some sort of recession. The U.S is a very wasteful country. We take advantege of the money we have or used to have. When people want something they are used to getting it right then and there. Why else would we have Walmarts that are open 24 hours a day?

Poverty is a big world issue. Poverty is the state for the majority of the world’s people and nations. Almost half the world — over 3 billion people — live on less than $2.50 a day. 1 billion children live in poverty (1 in 2 children in the world). 640 million live without adequate shelter, 400 million have no access to safe water, 270 million have no access to health services. 10.6 million died in 2003 before they reached the age of 5 (or roughly 29,000 children per day).
You've been to Lincoln during Christmas time and when you walk out of Wal Mart what is one of the first things you see? Homeless people begging for money or a piece of food. This is everywhere people who are without a home need to have the responsibility to take care of themselves and there family. It kills me when I see young children begging for money! It isn't their fault they don't have a home or money its there parents, its time for them to take care of there child otherwise they shouldn't get to keep them. Be a parent for goodness sake!!!
I think the one of the deals with wall street's problems are because of the credit card companies. They keep trying to give credit cards to people and then those people go into debt and can't pay the money back.
Animals in Asia are being consumed in Asia for various reasons. The importing of these endangered animals in large cities is happening in large amounts. The trading of wildlife is becoming a major problem. Especially in Asia. Taiwan is leading the nation in the illegal trade market.
China has used animal parts for treatments for many years. They have used specific parts, such as: using ground rhino horn for cooling blood, and tiger bones to relieve feaver. this has been happening for a long time, and it seems there is nothing we can do about. i hate that they are using the endangered animals for this.

to austin, i see what you are saying, but the people should know if they can or can not pay off their credit cards. some of the resonsibility should lie in our hands?? why do we expect everyone to take care of our problems?? try to do it yourself.
josie, would you rather be able to get what you want whenever you want, or not being able to get these things?? i know our economy isnt the greatest but we are trying and i dont think that the walmarts are as bad as the casinos or the huge hotels and other things that have NO purpose. at walmart at least you are getting stuf fyou need.
Human increasing of asininity:
The new generation of humanity is getting sillier! That is, what lots of scientist and new statistics say! They ascribe it especially to the nearly daily use of computer and in general all our luxury which makes our daily life today much easier! Also if you look how much people today go to College but take the easiest classes, they can. How many really stupid TV-shows do you find when you turn on your TV? Or look at teenagers, sometimes people even don’t recognize, that they are talking slang! Fights at schools and outsides schools are increasing, without any reasons for them, just because people like to fight?!! People (above all teenagers) are bored and start affecting older people, just without any respect!
I think a part is really increasing of asininity, but a lot is just that people are more bored than they used to, because all that luxury. And in my opinion, that’s also a reason, why there are so much more fat people, I heard so often, that people are bored and that’s why many people eat, even they are not hungry!
to Jose: i understand your thoughts, yes the U.S. is a wasteful country, but it doesn't have just bad parts. I mean why has the U.S. the title: country of posibilties? It's a part of your history and i wouldn't call it bad!
Our economy is scary right now! But, gas prices are going down as i type. we are a waistful country everyday people waist food, there are kids in africa starving!

Gas prices. i believe that gas prices will continue to go down for a while then begin to plataue. I also think that they will go back up as soon as the stock market is back on its feet.

i agree with you, sure it's still the mistake of the people who used the credit cards and then went into dept, but now the companies, who make people buy credit cards, want their money back buy the taxpayers! That's the wrong way in my opinion!
Stocks tumbled Friday, although they managed to close off session lows, as Wall Street joined a worldwide market slump on bets that a recession is imminent — if not already in place.
The Dow Jones industrial average fell 312 points or 3.6 percent, to 8,378.95. It slumped as much as 504 points in the morning, but came back to within 112 points of breakeven in the final hours before falling back again.
The Standard & Poor’s 500 index fell 3.5 percent and the Nasdaq composite slid 3.2 percent. All three indexes closed at fresh five-year lows.
I think this is very bad for our economy.If this keeps going on I think the world is going to be in trouble.

The Dow Jones Industrial average ended with a 889 point surge. But experts believe this still wont get us out of this drought.I believe this wont end until our nation's credit is fixed, and the housing market hits full stride.
