According to CNN.com, "outrage over bailed-out insurance giant American International Group's million-dollar bonuses may grab headlines, but its payouts on complicated financial instruments deserve closer examination", ex-New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer said Thursday. With such public outrage, it will be interesting to see what the Obama administration will do.
Your Assignment:
1.) Research the AIG Bonus issue and explain a little about the situation.
2.) What has, or will the Obama administration do to quel public outrage.

AIG just got bailed out by the government a month or so ago. Well now the CEO's are getting these bonuses with tax payers money. There is a conflict about how the money should be spent because the government doenst want to them what to do. Obama is currently trying to come up with a plan on how to settle this issue. He doesnt want to make things worse. My opinion on this is that it is outrageous. The CEO's are already billionares and here they are getting million dollar bonuses. We have children in the streets who are starving to death but that doesnt really matter to all the big time people in the cities because they have enough money to blow on cars, houses, and bling! People need to step back and look around them and put themselves in each others shoes. This is getting ridiculous.
1.) AIG was failing fast so they asked for a bailout. The government passed the bailout plan for AIG and AIG was given in the billions. Recently AIG handed out bonuses equaling to about $165 million to employees.
2.)Obama promises to get everything he can to get these bonuses back.Obama said the AIG payments raised moral and ethical problems, but he stressed that the bigger problem was the culture that allowed traders to claim them.
3.)My opinion is what in the world was AIG thinking!!!?? This is ridiculous! They took advantage of the bailout money/tax payers money. Take all that money back and put it for something worth staying in business.
i think obama gaive the AIG a 165 million bonus.
it said that if obama causes to much more outrage due to the baiout then he is going to have a hard time trying to get money for the tax bailout ordeal.
i beleive that its not a good investment cause if AIG is so important then how the H word are they going under so much and need so much money.
1.) The government gave AIG a billion dollar bailout which the congress pased. With that money they gave 65workers million dollar bonuses
2.) After which president Obama said that will not be
allowed any longer, because it is wasted spending.
3.) I think that it is an outrage that AIG gave those bonuses because they need the money more for other problems in their business. I think that Obama is doing the right thing too, by making big companies stop paying bonuses to executives.
Aig just got bailed out by the goverment a mounth ago. ell now the ceo are getting these bounces with tax prayers money. there is a conflict about how the money should be spent because the gorvernment doesnt want to them what to do. Oboma is currently trying to come up with a plan on how to settle this issue.he doesnt want to make things worse. I think that it would not help the thing a bit.
AIG got bailed out about a month ago. Before the bailout, some of the executives were to recieve bonuses. But since recieving the bailout each executive has recieced about a million dollars. Now the country is outraged.
Obama wants the bonuses back.He believes that the contract was wrong, and it should have been changed before the bailout.
I believe this is wrong they are taking advantage of tax payer money. All of the money should be returned. LET AIG GO DOWN!
Aid got a butt load of money from the bailout. They just gave the CEO's of there company Millions of dollars in bonuses. The head of AIG said their contracts said that they were going to get millions of dollars in bonuses.
Obama's administration is going to try to get the money threw taxing them.
I think it is a good idea to get all of the money back. Taxing them is a good way to get it back.
1) the debate is that when aig got the bailout money, they had a contract already in place with their executives, to get paid millions in bonuses.
2) obama wants to fire the executives, and have the money returned to the u.s. treasury department.
3) i think that them getting paid millions in bonuses is just retarted. they need to learn that they can't just get money because they want it. they should earn it like everyone else.
1.)The government gave AIG a billion dollar bailout which the congress pased. With that money they gave 65workers million dollar bonuses.
2.)Obama promises to get everything he can to get these bonuses back.Obama said the AIG payments raised moral and ethical problems, but he stressed that the bigger problem was the culture that allowed traders to claim them.
3.)I think its so stupid...I mean we pay taxes to keep them alive and then they still can't survive! Seriously we should use our money better for something that stays in business and gives people jobs and money!
the AIG asked for bailout money and in turn they used it to give bonuses for imployees. the obama ministration is trying to make a plan to make the situation better and not turn it around. I think they need to get sued because it was susposed to be used to keep the company going.
AIG recieved an 85 billion dollar bailout. They used most of this money to give raises to their employees. Obama has never rally said whether or not that he supported the bailout or not. AIG was wrong for using the bailout money like this, thats why I dont really believe in bailouts.
1.) The bringing down of AIG's financial unit is being blamed on the co-head person Jon Liebergall, and a few others who recieved bonuses. The 2 head people in charge, including Liebergall and James Haas, and also Douglas Poling, have all said that they would be giving back their bonuses. However the other people have not said anything about giving any of it back and aren't seem to be answering their phones.
2.) The Obama administration plans on putting a a very large tax on the companies who took federal bailout money.
3.) I think that if some people are going to be dumb about the money they took out of federal bailout money then they should be taxed but not if they aren't doing anything bad with it, and are actually using it.
AIG was falling and so the government bailed them out with 165million dollars. obama has promised alot of things to get these bonuses back. i dont see why we pay taxes if they arent getting used for resonable things.
AIG was bailed out by the government about a month ago. And now the CEO's are getting bonuses that are made up of tax payers money.
Obama says he will do everything he can to get the bonuses back. He says that with the AIG payments, moral and ethical problems have been raised.
I think this is ridiculous. Why did AIG have to take advantage of the bail out and tax payers money. It makes me pretty mad.
1.) The downfall of AIG's financial unit is being blamed on the co-president Jon Liebergall, who recieved large bonuses. The 2 CEO's in charge, including Liebergall and James Haas, and also Douglas Poling, have all said that they would give back their bonuses. However the other people have not said anything about giving any of it back.
2.) The Obama administration plans on putting a a very large tax on the companies who took federal bailout money and thenhaded out bounis.
3.) I think that AIG should give back all their bail out money and we should not care if they go out of bussiness, its not our job to watch them.
AIG was failing so they asked the government for a bailout. They got in the billions worth of money. AIG gave their employees close to $165 milllion.
Obama says that he will do his best to get everythhing back. He said it was wasted money.
i am upset with AIG. they are taking advantage of our economy and the willingness that we have to try and help.
AIG was falling to they had asked the Government for money and they got billions of it then gave there employies 165$ million.
After which president Obama said that will not be allowed any longer, because it is wasted spending.
I think it is dumb that the government gave them money.
AIG was falling fast so they asked the government for a bailout. AIG was given billions from the government, and just not to long ago they gave out bonuses which were about $165 million to the employees.
They are going to try to get it back as best they can.
I think it was wrong of them to do that. They should have made an agreement with the government of wut they are going to be using all of that money for.
